  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
  • 51/2 cups bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water, sugar, and optional powdered ginger in a small bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together warm milk and vegetable oil. Add the frothy yeast mixture and salt; stir until combined.
  3. Gradually add bread flour one cup at a time until a smooth, slightly sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Punch down the risen dough and divide into two portions; shape each into a loaf and place in greased pans.
  7. Cover loaves with cloth and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush melted butter on top of loaves and bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
