Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour (for filling)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (for filling)
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened (for crust)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (for crust)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for streusel topping)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (for streusel topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and half of the granulated sugar until light and fluffy. In another bowl, mix flour, cinnamon, and salt; gradually add this to the butter mixture until just combined.
  3. Spread the crust mixture into the prepared pan and press down firmly. Bake for about 15 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. For the filling, toss sliced apples with remaining sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
  5. To make the streusel topping, combine rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cold butter in another bowl; mix until crumbly.
  6. After cooling slightly, spread the apple mixture over the crust and sprinkle with streusel topping.
  7. Bake for an additional 45 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  8. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
