Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup (1 + 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups (550g) bread flour
  • 1 tbsp (10g) instant dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Warm your milk until it's just warm to the touch. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, softened butter, eggs, sugar, yeast, flour, and salt to form a soft dough. Knead gently until smooth.
  2. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  3. For the filling, mix softened butter with brown sugar and ground cinnamon.
  4. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  5. Roll up tightly into a log shape, slice lengthwise, and twist to create a braid.
  6. Place on a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and allow to rise again briefly before baking at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
