  • 4 cups granulated sugar (plus extra for coating)
  • 4 cups water (plus extra for blanching)

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly scrub the peels of the oranges. Slice into â…›-inch thick rounds, discarding the ends.
  2. Blanch the orange slices in boiling water for about 10 minutes, then transfer to an ice water bath to stop cooking.
  3. In a pot, dissolve 4 cups of sugar in 4 cups of water over medium heat until boiling.
  4. Add the drained orange slices to the syrup and return to a boil before reducing heat. Simmer for 45-60 minutes until translucent, stirring occasionally.
  5. Lay slices on wire racks and bake at 175°F for about 30 minutes. Coat with sugar and bake for an additional hour until mostly dry.
  6. Allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
