Ingredients

  • Extra-Firm Tofu (1 block, about 14-16 ounces)
  • Cornstarch (½ cup)
  • Soy Sauce (¼ cup)
  • Rice Vinegar (2 tablespoons)
  • Honey or Maple Syrup (¼ cup)
  • Garlic (4-5 cloves, minced)
  • Fresh Ginger (1 tablespoon, grated)
  • Red Pepper Flakes (½ teaspoon, optional)
  • Sesame Oil (1 teaspoon)
  • Cooking Oil (for frying, about ½ cup)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes and coat evenly in cornstarch.
  3. Whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey or maple syrup, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
  4. Heat cooking oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  5. Remove excess oil from the skillet and add the prepared sauce; bring to a simmer.
  6. Add the crispy tofu to the sauce and gently toss until evenly coated.
  7. Serve hot with garnishes like sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
