- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ medium yellow onion, minced
- ÂĽ cup finely chopped green bell pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
- ÂĽ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- Âľ cup tomato sauce
- ÂĽ cup unsweetened Primal Kitchen ketchup
- ÂĽ cup water
- 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- Âľ teaspoon chili powder
- 1–2 teaspoons hot sauce (optional)
- 4 gluten-free buns or baked sweet potatoes
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the ground beef for about 5 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Add minced onion and green bell pepper, seasoning with salt and black pepper. Sauté until veggies soften (4-5 minutes), then stir in minced garlic.
- Combine tomato sauce, ketchup, water, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, chili powder, and optional hot sauce in the skillet. Stir well.
- Bring to a gentle boil; reduce to a simmer and cover for 10 minutes to meld flavors and thicken the sauce.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve on toasted buns or over baked sweet potatoes.
