  • 2 cups peeled & diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated or brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tablespoon milk (any kind)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup salted caramel for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare dough: Refrigerate homemade rough puff pastry or thaw store-bought puff pastry.
  2. Cook filling: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine diced apples, cornstarch, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar. Stir until softened; simmer for another five minutes. Cool for twenty minutes.
  3. Preheat oven: Set to 400°F (204°C).
  4. Roll out dough: Cut into squares.
  5. Fill pastries: Spoon apple filling into each square; fold and crimp edges.
  6. Brush with egg wash: Mix egg and milk; brush on turnovers.
  7. Bake: Place in oven for 23-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool and serve: Let cool slightly; drizzle with caramel if desired.
