Scale
  • 12 cups stale white bread (cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tbsp butter (divided)
  • 1 large yellow or white onion (chopped)
  • 2 cups celery (chopped stalks and leaves)
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp marjoram
  • 3 tbsp fresh sage (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Tear stale bread into one-inch cubes. If not stale, spread on a baking sheet and dry in a low oven for about 15 minutes.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Melt half the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and celery; cook until soft (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Mix Everything Together: In a large bowl, combine dried bread cubes with sautéed vegetables, herbs, salt, pepper, eggs, and broth. Mix gently.
  4. Bake: Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, drizzle with remaining melted butter, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
