  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 mix)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 5 minced garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon oregano flakes
  • 2 teaspoons cumin powder
  • 2 teaspoons coarse salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (or use Aleppo pepper)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 warmed pita breads
  • 1 cup tzatziki sauce (either homemade or store-bought)
  • 3 sliced campari or roma tomatoes
  • 1 thinly sliced red onion
  • 1 finely chopped romaine heart
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese (optional)
  • Hot sauce as desired (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground lamb, ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, bread crumbs, oregano flakes, cumin powder, coarse salt, paprika, and black pepper. Mix gently until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small patties and cook on a preheated grill or skillet over medium-high heat for about 5–6 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  3. Warm the pita bread on a grill pan or in an oven wrapped in foil.
  4. Assemble your gyros by spreading tzatziki sauce on each pita and adding a patty along with sliced tomatoes, red onions, and romaine hearts.
  5. Serve immediately with optional hot sauce.
