  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce (optional), ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Add beef strips and let marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized; season with salt and pepper.
  3. Increase heat and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the skillet. Stir-fry marinated beef strips for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. Combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce (optional), rice vinegar, and cornstarch in a bowl. Pour over beef in the skillet and let simmer until thickened.
  5. Add sautéed onions back to the skillet, stir well for flavor integration, and serve hot over rice or noodles.
