  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1½ cups whole milk
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 cups broth or water
  • Salt, as needed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Lime wedges
  • Avocado slices
  • Sliced jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Prepare the steak by patting it dry, seasoning with olive oil, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Sear the steak in a hot skillet for 4–5 minutes per side until cooked to desired doneness. Let rest before slicing.
  3. Cook rice with broth or water after rinsing; simmer for about 18–20 minutes.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté garlic before adding milk and gradually stirring in cheeses until smooth.
  5. Assemble by layering rice on plates topped with sliced steak and drizzled queso sauce; garnish with cilantro and lime.
