  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt or sour cream
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples; set aside.
  3. In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  4. In another bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Spread half the batter in the prepared pan; layer half the apple slices on top. Repeat with remaining batter and apples.
  7. Mix sugar and cinnamon for topping; sprinkle over the apples.
  8. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
